A dramatic video captured the rescue of two hikers who were stranded on a secluded beach near one of Point Reyes National Seashore’s most dangerous hazards.

The hikers found themselves trapped near Elephant Rock when rising tides cut off their only exit, according to a social media update from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office.

After realizing they were stuck, the hikers called emergency services for help, as reported by a department spokesperson to SFGATE.

Due to the challenging access by land or sea, a helicopter team was dispatched for the rescue mission. Using a 100-foot line, responders lifted the hikers from the beach using a specialized harness designed for aerial rescues.

The hikers were safely transported to the Marin County Fire Department with no reported injuries.

A video of the rescue shows the intense scene as a rescuer descends to the rocky shoreline and then lifts off with both hikers suspended above the water.

While Point Reyes is a popular destination for hiking and coastal exploration, it presents serious risks, as cautioned by the National Park Service.

Visitors are advised about the dangers of powerful surf, unexpected waves, strong currents, polluted water, cold temperatures, and challenging terrain.

It is important to check tide charts and carry a reliable means of communication when exploring the coastline to ensure safety.

Emergency communication access is crucial, especially in areas with no cell service. Carrying a satellite communication device like a Garmin inReach could save lives.
