The campaign of former President Joe Biden avoided answering whether the president intended to take performance-enhancing drugs before his debate with President Donald Trump over a year ago. They dismissed claims made by Trump and his campaign as “desperate and clearly false” regarding the possibility of the 46th president using drugs.

In a recent interview, Hunter Biden, the former first son, suggested that his father’s lackluster debate performance was due to taking Ambien, a sedative typically used to treat insomnia.

“I know exactly what happened in that debate,” remarked Hunter Biden. “He had traveled extensively, equivalent to circling the globe three times. At 81 years old, he was exhausted. They gave him Ambien to help him sleep.

“When he took the stage, he appeared like a deer caught in headlights,” Hunter added. “This only fueled the negative narratives being spread.”

On the day before the debate, Fox News Digital contacted the Biden campaign to ask if Biden planned to use performance-enhancing drugs, but received evasive responses. Meanwhile, Trump and others had been calling for Biden to undergo a drug test, citing concerns about his mental acuity.

When asked directly if Biden would be taking drugs, the campaign spokesperson reiterated that the accusations were false and baseless.

Ambien, being a sedative, does not enhance performance and would not provide an advantage in a public debate.

Leading up to the debate, Trump had been vocal about his demand for Biden to take a drug test to prove he was not using any performance-enhancing substances.

The debate turned out to be a disaster for Biden, with his responses being criticized, and calls for him to drop out of the race started to emerge.

Hunter Biden’s recent interview further fueled speculations about Biden’s mental acuity and his performance in the debate.

The campaign’s previous statements and Hunter Biden’s remarks have stirred controversy, with some allies of Joe Biden being criticized for suggesting he should step down from the race.

Efforts to reach out to the former president’s office for comments on Hunter Biden’s statements and the issue of performance-enhancing drugs were unsuccessful at the time of writing.
