Jeanine Pirro appointed as chief prosecutor in Washington, D.C.

The Senate recently confirmed Jeanine Pirro as Washington D.C.’s top prosecutor, appointed by President Donald Trump. Pirro, a former judge, prosecutor, and Fox News host, received a 50-45 vote to serve as U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia. She had been holding the position on an interim basis since May.

Before her confirmation, there were concerns and drama surrounding Pirro’s nomination. Senate Democrats accused her of echoing Trump’s election fraud claims and supporting him post the Jan. 6 Capitol riot during her time at Fox News. Despite the opposition, Pirro’s nomination was successfully pushed through.

Pirro’s confirmation was not the first choice for the job, as Ed Martin was initially nominated but failed to gain enough support among Republicans. The confirmation process faced obstacles, but ultimately Pirro secured the position and is set to serve as Washington D.C.’s top prosecutor.
