Jennifer Love Hewitt recently addressed rumors of a feud with her “I Know What You Did Last Summer” co-star, Sarah Michelle Gellar. In an interview with Vulture, Hewitt clarified that she hasn’t spoken to Gellar in nearly three decades since the release of the hit 1997 film.
Hewitt dismissed the speculation of bad blood between them, stating, “I just think people don’t want the narrative to be easy. Why do we always have to be against each other and out for each other?”
The former “Party of Five” star emphasized that from her side, everything is good as she hasn’t seen Gellar since they were 18 years old when the first movie came out.
Both actresses played significant roles in “I Know What You Did Last Summer” alongside Freddie Prinze Jr. and Ryan Phillipe. While Gellar and Phillipe did not return for subsequent projects after the first movie, Gellar made a cameo appearance in the latest installment.
During a recent interview, Hewitt expressed hope of meeting Gellar at the premiere of the movie. However, social media users noted that they did not appear together in red carpet photos.
Speculation of a feud between the actresses arose in December 2024 when Gellar was asked about Hewitt’s potential return for the 2025 movie. Gellar’s response was attributed to her cautiousness regarding a non-disclosure agreement.
Despite some online chatter about a rift between the stars, Hewitt confirmed her involvement in the sequel through an Instagram post. Gellar also fueled speculation by excluding Hewitt when tagging members of the main cast in a trailer post.
While some fans interpreted this exclusion as evidence of a feud, others pointed out that Hewitt has settings on her Instagram account preventing her from being tagged by other users.
