Jordon Hudson, the partner of North Carolina Tar Heels coach Bill Belichick, seemed to make a subtle comment towards a Cleveland Browns beat reporter on Saturday.

Cleveland.com journalist Mary Kay Cabot made a joke about Belichick that appeared to be directed at Hudson while delivering a speech after receiving the Bill Nunn Memorial Award. The award is presented to a reporter from the Professional Football Writers of America for their significant contributions to pro football coverage.

Cabot began covering the Browns in 1991, coinciding with Belichick’s appointment as head coach. She mentioned in her speech that Belichick used to call her and “yell” at her if she wrote something he didn’t like.

“Now I understand why Bill was so tough on me,” Cabot remarked, via Cleveland.com. “I was 28 at the time and he just couldn’t relate to a woman that old.”

Hudson, who is 24 years old, became a topic of discussion in the spring following an interview with CBS. She appeared to deflect questions about their relationship, giving insight into the dynamics between the two.

Hudson appeared to have caught wind of the joke and shared criticisms from others.

“Not much to ‘laugh’ about,” read the critical post. “No wonder many have disdain for the media, especially those who want to be the story rather than report on the story.”

The excitement surrounding Belichick and Hudson’s relationship has subsided since its peak in the spring.

Belichick is preparing for his first season as the Tar Heels’ head coach. North Carolina’s season kicks off on Sept. 1 against TCU.
