Reports suggest that King Charles III is facing challenges retaining his gardening staff.
According to The Sunday Times, 11 out of 12 gardeners have left the team working at Highgrove House since 2022. A complaint was filed by one employee citing being understaffed and struggling to meet the King’s demands.
Allegedly, staff members have experienced physical injuries due to the workload, leading to low morale within the team.
When a staff member displayed a lack of knowledge about a specific flower, the king reportedly expressed dissatisfaction.
The King’s Foundation responded to inquiries from Fox News Digital, stating that staff turnover at the organization is below the national average.
A spokesperson for the King’s Foundation emphasized their commitment to employee welfare and highlighted their efforts to maintain high satisfaction rates among staff. They also mentioned positive developments at Highgrove House since 2022, including increased operating profit and the establishment of an education facility teaching traditional skills.
Fox News Digital confirmed that only one grievance was reported between 2024 and 2025 out of nearly 500 staff members. Employees have received annual pay raises ranging between 15% and 19% since 2022.
King Charles has been a resident of Highgrove House since 1980, where he raised his children Prince Harry and Prince William with Princess Diana. The home is now shared with Queen Camilla.
