Lucid DreamDrive Pro update adds hands-free driving and lane change assist
As of July 30, Lucid Air owners with the DreamDrive Pro package will receive an over-the-air update that unlocks two key features:
WHAT IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)?
- Hands-Free Driving Assist allows drivers to remove their hands from the wheel on compatible divided highways.
- Hands-Free Lane Change Assist enables lane changes when the turn signal is activated.
The update will first be available for the Lucid Air sedan, with the Gravity SUV receiving these features later in the year.

How Lucid DreamDrive Pro works: Sensors, software, and hands-free features explained
DreamDrive Pro combines advanced hardware and intelligent software to power Lucid’s driver-assistance system. It utilizes 32 integrated sensors, including LiDAR, radar, visible-light and surround-view cameras, and ultrasonic sensors. This configuration provides precise environmental awareness for various driving scenarios.
Because the platform is software-based, Lucid can introduce new features like hands-free highway driving and automated lane changes through over-the-air updates. Drivers benefit from continuous enhancements without the need for hardware upgrades or service appointments.

These updates mark just the beginning. Lucid is heavily investing in advanced driver-assistance and automation technologies, with a strong emphasis on safety, comfort, and long-term innovation.
Lucid now joins the top hands-free driving systems. Tesla’s Full Self-Driving and GM’s Super Cruise both offer hands-free driving on highways, with variations in driver attention monitoring and supported roads. Ford’s BlueCruise is another significant option, expanding to more mapped highways. Mercedes-Benz Drive Pilot allows drivers to divert their attention in specific traffic conditions, albeit limited to certain markets at present.

What this means for you
If you’re driving a vehicle with advanced driver-assistance features, like the Lucid Air or similar models, you’ll likely experience tangible changes in your daily driving routine. With hands-off driving now feasible on select highways, stressful commutes can become more manageable. Sitting in traffic no longer has to be a hassle. Long road trips suddenly feel more comfortable. Many automakers, including Lucid, are delivering updates directly to your vehicle, granting access to new functionalities without visiting a service center.
Safety remains paramount with these new systems. A network of sensors and intelligent software assists in smooth lane changes, consistent following distances, and a ride free of sudden surprises. While these advancements provide peace of mind, it’s crucial to remember that these systems do not replace the need for driver alertness and readiness.
With an increasing number of vehicles adopting similar technologies each year, the driving landscape is evolving. The hope is that fewer accidents resulting from distraction or delayed reactions will benefit not only tech-savvy drivers but all road users. While models like the Lucid Air demonstrate the possibilities, the real transformation occurs as driver-assistance features become standard in vehicles everywhere.
