The future of Malik Beasley in basketball is uncertain due to a reported federal investigation into his alleged involvement in gambling related to NBA games and prop bets.

Beasley, who played for the Detroit Pistons during the 2024-25 NBA season, was living in downtown Detroit until recently. An eviction order was filed against the 28-year-old after he was sued for failing to make rental payments to the landlord.

Beasley previously faced legal action over rental payment disputes and was sued for allegedly missing payments totaling $21,500 for his downtown unit owned by Bedrock Detroit, a company linked to Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert.

A default judgment was issued after Beasley failed to respond to the second lawsuit.

Reports suggested that Beasley’s representatives were in discussions with the Pistons for a possible multi-year contract before news of the federal gambling probe emerged.

Beasley’s attorney, Steve Haney, stated that his client has not been charged with a crime.

In addition to the rent dispute, Hazan Sports Management Group filed a lawsuit against Beasley for breaching his contract and failing to repay a $650,000 advance before the contract was terminated.

Despite the recent challenges, Beasley hinted at a possible return to Detroit and mentioned interest from other NBA teams in his services.

“We gotta be prepared to come back to the Pistons, or, like I said, there’s some other teams interested as well,” Beasley said in a social media post.

Beasley averaged 16.3 points and 2.6 rebounds per game last season.
