In a surprising move, the Seattle Mariners made a significant trade to strengthen their lineup with hopes of making a run for the World Series in the upcoming fall.

Reports indicate that the Mariners have reached an agreement with the Arizona Diamondbacks to acquire power-hitting third baseman Eugenio Suárez. The official announcement of the deal is pending.

Suárez was a highly sought-after player leading up to the trade deadline. He has an impressive 36 home runs, a league-leading 87 RBI, and is hitting .248 with an OPS of .898 in 105 games for the Diamondbacks this season.

Having previously played for the Mariners in 2022 and 2023, Suárez brings a wealth of experience to his new team. Despite hitting a combined 58 home runs during his previous stints with the Mariners, he led the American League in strikeouts each year, even surpassing 200 in 2023 alone.

Joining a lineup that already features power hitters like Cal Raleigh, Randy Arozarena, and Julio Rodriguez, Suárez adds another dimension to the Mariners’ offensive capabilities.

Currently standing at a record of 57-52 after a recent loss, the Mariners are trailing the Houston Astros by five games in the American League East and are only 1.5 games behind the Boston Red Sox for the second wildcard spot.

On the other side, the Diamondbacks, with a record of 51-58, seem to be focusing on selling players ahead of the deadline. As part of the deal, they will receive first baseman Tyler Locklear and pitchers Juan Burgos and Hunton Cranton, according to reports.
