Deion Sanders, the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes, recently shared that he underwent bladder removal surgery following a cancer diagnosis during the offseason, but he remains committed to his coaching role.
Devin Hester, a Pro Football Hall of Famer and close friend of Sanders, expressed his support for Sanders’ decision to continue coaching despite his health challenges.
“I don’t think it’s surprising,” Hester told Fox News Digital. “When you know Deion Sanders and understand his passion for football and mentoring young players, it’s clear that coaching is where his heart lies.”

“He’s given opportunities for a lot of men that have dreams of coaching and dreams to be a part of something special,” Hester added. “He’s opening up doors and blessing others with his presence.”
During a recent news conference, Sanders’ medical team provided details about his cancer diagnosis and surgery. Colorado assistant athletic trainer Lauren Askevold and Dr. Janet Kukreja at UC Health explained the timeline of events leading to Sanders’ bladder removal procedure.

“We proceeded with the removal of the bladder tumor. We removed the tumor. It was very high grade, invading through the bladder wall,” Kukreja explained. “I am pleased to report that the results of the surgery are that he is cured from the cancer.”
In a video shared by his son, Sanders revealed that he had to make a will amid his health battles, reflecting on the emotional toll of facing his mortality.

Sanders, determined to focus on the upcoming Buffaloes season, remains committed to coaching alongside his son Shedeur Sanders and Heisman-winner Travis Hunter.
Meanwhile, Hester participated in a USAA “Salute to Service Boot Camp” in Chicago, where he interacted with service members and shared insights from his football career.

“It was a great cause for today,” Hester said of the boot camp experience. “We were just back and forth giving conversation, giving tips on daily routines, and having a great time out there.”
