A prominent Jewish leader in New York City has expressed concerns about the potential mayoral term of Zohran Mamdani, emphasizing the safety of Jewish residents and all New Yorkers.

Scott Feltman, executive vice president of the One Israel Fund, stated that the Jewish community in the city supports people of all faiths running for office but are wary of candidates who associate with extremist groups like Hamas or Hezbollah.

“He was recently recorded at a local mosque where the Imam endorsed the killing of IDF soldiers and praised Hamas,” Feltman explained. “This is what we are opposed to, and it is a genuine and serious concern.”

Feltman highlighted the increase in antisemitic attacks in recent years, especially in New York City, which has caused unease within the Jewish community. He expressed alarm at the prospect of a candidate like Mamdani gaining influence in such a climate.

Earlier this year, two Israeli embassy staff members were killed in Washington, D.C., by an individual shouting “free Palestine,” while in Boulder, Colorado, an Egyptian man targeted a pro-Israel demonstration, resulting in one death and multiple injuries.

“Every day, I worry about the safety of my staff, knowing that our organization has been singled out by this candidate. We have no idea who may be following him or what actions they may take. This is a serious concern,” Feltman added.

Mamdani and actress Cynthia Nixon recently criticized the One Israel Fund, prompting Feltman to respond with an article in American Thinker.

“When you align yourself with phrases like ‘globalize the intifada,’ which essentially calls for violence against Jews worldwide, it raises serious alarms within the Jewish community,” Feltman emphasized.

“His platform of defunding the police and making unrealistic promises puts all New Yorkers at risk, not just the Jewish community. It is a cause for genuine concern,” he added.

Mamdani faced backlash for initially failing to condemn the phrase “globalize the intifada,” which many Jews interpreted as an incitement to violence. He later clarified his stance and assured business leaders that he does not support such rhetoric.

Feltman described Mamdani as a “social media sensation” and acknowledged his ability to mobilize voters. However, he criticized the education system for perpetuating antisemitism, especially at the university level.
