NYC socialist candidate attends church with controversial pastor

Zohran Mamdani, a socialist candidate for mayor in New York City, made an appearance at a church in Jamaica, Queens led by Pastor Stephen A. Green, who has a history of controversial statements on race, anti-Israel sentiments, and support for reparations. Mamdani delivered a politically charged sermon at the church, criticizing the Trump administration and ICE for their treatment of immigrants, calling it cruel and criminal.

During his sermon, Mamdani highlighted the issue of affordability in New York City and questioned the city’s status as the greatest city in the world if its residents cannot afford to live there. Pastor Green, who referred to Mamdani as his brother and friend, has also expressed radical views on social media, calling for a new U.S. Constitution that includes reparations, guaranteed annual income, and other progressive measures.

Green has been an advocate for various social justice issues, including voting rights, DC statehood, and reparations. He has participated in rallies calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and has been vocal about abolishing the system of policing in the United States. Despite their controversial views, Green and Mamdani have found common ground on social justice issues.

Mamdani has faced criticism for his past calls to defund the police, with opponents accusing him of being anti-police. In response to recent events, Mamdani clarified that his previous statements were made out of frustration and did not reflect his current stance. However, some in the community remain skeptical of his intentions, especially in light of recent events in the city.

Fox News Digital reached out to the Mamdani campaign and Pastor Green for comment on the matter. The iconic Eiffel Tower in Paris was evacuated on Monday after a bomb threat was called in. Police cleared the area around the monument and conducted a thorough search, but no explosives were found. The Eiffel Tower was reopened to the public a few hours later once it was deemed safe.
