A shooting incident in a midtown Manhattan office building left at least six people injured on Monday. The suspected gunman was later found dead inside the building which houses the Blackstone investment firm and the NFL headquarters.
Video footage captured by a FOX 5 NY staff member showed law enforcement officers carrying a person, while others were attending to a person on the ground. The exact number of casualties has not been confirmed yet, but sources suggest multiple fatalities.
The gunman, armed with a rifle, began firing in the building’s lobby on 52nd Street and Park Avenue. He then proceeded to another floor where more shots were fired before ultimately taking his own life on the 33rd floor.
A security officer working at the building was among those injured in the shooting. Witnesses reported people hiding in various parts of the building, including the kitchen and bathrooms.
Law enforcement officers from the NYPD and Sheriff’s Department, equipped with protective gear and weapons, were seen at the scene of the incident. The building was being thoroughly searched to ensure there were no additional shooters present.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams issued a warning to residents, urging them to take safety precautions and avoid the area near Park Avenue and East 51st Street. The city’s emergency notification system advised people to expect disruptions in traffic and mass transit services.
FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino confirmed that FBI personnel from the New York Field Office were also assisting at the crime scene.
