Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi stated on Thursday that she is advocating for sex changes for transgender children at a national level.

Pelosi visited the San Francisco VA Medical Center to assess health-system improvements, research initiatives, and the potential cuts to core veterans’ services by House Republicans.

During a press conference, she was questioned about her response to the halts on “gender-affirming care” in California.

“I am actively working towards this at a national level, with the hope of providing gender-affirming care for our transgender children,” Pelosi expressed. She also mentioned the challenges posed by the current political climate.

She described the situation as “unfortunate,” noting the display of a transgender-pride flag outside her office. Pelosi acknowledged the opposition from some Republicans on Capitol Hill but emphasized that she is not alone in her support for sex changes for children.

Recently, officials from Democratic-led states filed a lawsuit to challenge the Trump administration’s restrictions on sex change procedures for individuals under 19 years old.

The legal action argues against the administration’s attempts to prevent access to sex change operations through threats of investigations and criminal charges.

Pelosi’s office clarified that her remarks about supporting sex changes for children were in reference to this lawsuit.

The lawsuit targets President Trump, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and the Justice Department for their actions against sex change procedures for minors.

Furthermore, various healthcare providers have announced pauses in sex change surgeries for individuals under 19 in response to the administration’s directives.

The Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C., also declared a halt to gender transition-related medical interventions.

Despite these challenges, several states have laws permitting sex change surgeries for children, including California, New York, and Washington D.C.
