Preview of NFL Hall of Fame Game: Lions vs. Chargers

NFL football is back in action with the Los Angeles Chargers set to take on the Detroit Lions in the 2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame Game at 8 p.m. ET in Canton, Ohio. This will be the first time an NFL preseason game is played in July since 2000.

Tight end Antonio Gates, a Chargers legend, will be inducted into the Hall of Fame alongside cornerback Eric Allen, defensive end Jared Allen, and wide receiver Sterling Sharpe. The Lions, as the designated home team, will look to bounce back after a disappointing end to last season.

Both teams have made coaching changes in the offseason, with the Lions promoting John Morton and Kelvin Sheppard to fill the roles left by departing coordinators. The Chargers, on the other hand, will be without quarterback Justin Herbert in this game, giving Trey Lance and DJ Uiagalelei the opportunity to showcase their skills.

Lance, who played for the Dallas Cowboys last season, will share snaps with Uiagalelei, a journeyman quarterback who has played for multiple colleges. The Lions, on the other hand, will rely on Hendon Hooker and Kyle Allen to lead their offense in the exhibition game.

As football fans eagerly await the return of NFL action, the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game serves as a preview of what’s to come in the upcoming season.
