A Republican lawmaker from the House is launching a campaign to become the governor of South Carolina, as confirmed by his campaign to Fox News Digital.
Rep. Ralph Norman, R-S.C., a member of the House Freedom Caucus, is set to announce his campaign at an event in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
His non-congressional social media account now displays “Ralph Norman for Governor.”
Norman, a fiscal conservative, has aligned himself with other like-minded colleagues on the right of the House GOP, sometimes disrupting the leadership’s legislative agenda to advocate for more conservative policies.

Norman joins a competitive field in the Republican primary for governor. Other candidates include South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette, and state Sen. Josh Kimbrell.
Additionally, Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., Norman’s House colleague, is reportedly contemplating a run for governor.
“We wish Congressman Ralph Norman the best of luck today as he announces his run for Governor,” Mace stated.
Before his election to Congress in 2017, Norman managed the Warren Norman Company, a commercial real estate development business founded by his father. He also served in the South Carolina state House from 2009 to 2017.

A strong supporter of former Gov. Nikki Haley, Norman was the sole House Republican to endorse her before she withdrew from the race, after which he fervently backed President Donald Trump.
Norman has been an outspoken advocate for Trump since Haley’s departure. Recently, he was at the White House with other House Republicans for a reception celebrating their legislative achievements.
