Ree Drummond credits pickup truck dates for 30-year marriage

“Pioneer Woman” Ree Drummond attributes her enduring marriage to her pick-up truck.

In a recent blog post, the Food Network star shared that she and her husband, Ladd Drummond, enjoy going for rides in their truck as part of their favorite date nights. This tradition started many years ago when their children were young and life was hectic.

“At the risk of sounding like an old married couple, we love to take drives together,” Ree wrote.

“There’s something about the peace of the pickup. That diesel engine serves as background music, allowing us to focus solely on each other. No distractions from laptops, devices, or TVs – it’s a perfect time to reconnect,” she added.

During their drives, Ree and Ladd discuss a variety of topics, often revolving around their family and Oklahoma ranch.

The couple’s destinations vary each time, with some drives focused on checking fences or cattle while others involve exploring different areas around Pawhuska or Ponca City. They also make sure to grab a convenience store drink like Dr. Pepper along the way.

“Other times, Ladd will take me to a new pasture or show me a creek I haven’t seen before, all while checking on the cows and fences,” Ree shared.

Ree and Ladd, who have been married for nearly three decades, are now empty nesters after raising their five children. Despite having plenty of alone time at home, they find that the intimacy and comfort of the pickup truck spark the best conversations.
