The New York Giants are set to start Russell Wilson in their first preseason game against the Buffalo Bills on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Highmark Stadium.

The duration of Wilson’s playing time is uncertain, but rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart is also anticipated to get extended minutes, as per reports from NorthJersey.com and The Record.

Wilson, at 36 years old, signed a one-year, $10.5 million deal with the team earlier in the year and was designated as the starting quarterback at the commencement of training camp in July.

Having spent the previous season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Wilson achieved a 6-5 record in 11 games, completing 63.7% of his passes for 2,482 yards with 16 touchdowns and five interceptions.

Aside from Wilson, the Giants also acquired Jameis Winston on a two-year contract during free agency. The playing time allocation for Winston against the Bills remains unclear, with Wilson and Dart expected to dominate the snaps with the first and second teams.

The battle for the backup quarterback position between Winston and Dart has been ongoing throughout training camp and is set to continue into the upcoming game.

Winston’s previous season with the Cleveland Browns saw him participate in 12 games, including seven starts, completing 61.1% of his passes for 2,121 yards with 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

Throughout Winston’s 10-year career, he has showcased a willingness to take risks, evident in his 154 career touchdowns and 111 career interceptions.

Dart, who played for Ole Miss last season, topped the SEC in completion percentage (69.3%) and yards (4,279) with 29 touchdowns and six interceptions.

In exchange for the Houston Texans’ No. 25 overall pick, the Giants relinquished their 2025 second-round pick (No. 34 overall), their 2025 third-round pick (No. 99 overall), and their 2026 third-round pick to select Dart.

The preseason holds significant importance for Dart’s growth, as his playing time during the regular season may be contingent on Wilson’s performance.
