Rory McIlroy has been quite busy this season, but he recently found a way to reduce his workload.
McIlroy made the decision to skip the St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind in Memphis, a move that raised concerns from PGA Tour organizer Peter Malnati.
The FedEx St. Jude Championship is the first playoff event, followed by the BMW Championship and the Tour Championship in Atlanta to conclude the postseason.

McIlroy’s decision prompted discussions about potential rule changes by PGA Tour officials to secure certain players’ spots in the playoffs based on points accumulated throughout the season.
McIlroy and top-seeded golfer Scottie Scheffler had amassed enough points to remain within the top-50 and top-30 thresholds for the upcoming tournaments, including the Tour Championship.

Malnati hinted at a possible rule change in response to McIlroy’s absence. Meanwhile, Jordan Spieth expressed doubt that McIlroy’s actions would set a trend among other players.
Despite the speculation, McIlroy had hinted earlier that he might skip the St. Jude Championship this year.

McIlroy is expected to participate in the penultimate playoff event in Baltimore and the Tour Championship in Atlanta. He is also set to lead Europe in the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black in New York.
