Rubio dismisses rumors of being next GOP nominee

Secretary of State Marco Rubio dismissed rumors of his potential candidacy for the Republican Party’s 2028 presidential nominee and instead endorsed Vice President JD Vance.

Rubio expressed his support for Vance during an interview with Lara Trump on the Fox News Channel, referring to Vance as one of his closest friends in politics.

He commended Vance’s performance as vice president and emphasized his satisfaction with his current role in President Donald Trump’s Cabinet, stating, “I want to do this job as long as the president allows me to.”

Appointed by Trump after his victory over then–Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election, Rubio, a former Republican senator from Florida, quickly became part of Trump’s Cabinet.

Rubio expressed his belief that if he continues in his role for the duration of Trump’s presidency and maintains the current pace of progress, he will be able to look back on his public service positively, stating, “I made a difference, I had an impact, and I served my country in a very positive way.”

“And I would be satisfied with that as the apex of my career,” he added.
