Philadelphia Eagles standout Saquon Barkley declined an invitation from President Donald Trump to join his Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition, as he revealed to reporters during training camp on Monday.

Trump recently signed an executive order on July 31, reinstating the council and the Presidential Fitness Test. The order aimed to address the “widespread epidemic of declining health and physical fitness with an approach that celebrates America’s sports and fitness traditions.”

During the signing, Trump was joined by various athletes, including Lawrence Taylor and Kansas City Chiefs’ Harrison Butker.

During a news conference about the order, Trump mentioned Barkley as one of the council members, along with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, San Francisco 49ers’ Nick Bosa, Miami Dolphins’ Tua Tagovailoa, and Butker.

Barkley clarified on Monday that he had declined the role on the council due to prior commitments. He expressed gratitude for the offer but explained that he felt it was best to focus on his current responsibilities.

The newly established council, led by Bryson DeChambeau, aims to impact the fitness goals of American youth by reintroducing the Presidential Fitness Test and implementing guidelines for building healthier communities.

The original Presidential Fitness Test was founded in 1956 and was retired by President Obama, who introduced the Presidential Youth Fitness Program.

“We need to re-instill the spirit of competition and commitment to nutrition and physical fitness,” stated Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy.

Despite his decision not to join the council, Barkley remains focused on defending the Vince Lombardi Trophy and continuing his successful NFL career.

According to recent reports, a new study has found that drinking coffee may have some unexpected health benefits. The study, which was published in a reputable medical journal, suggests that consuming coffee on a regular basis may be linked to a lower risk of heart disease.

Researchers analyzed data from over 500,000 participants and found that those who drank coffee had a slightly lower risk of developing heart disease compared to non-coffee drinkers. The study also found that the benefits were more pronounced in people who drank moderate amounts of coffee, rather than excessive amounts.

While the study does not prove causation, it does add to a growing body of research that suggests coffee may have some protective effects on heart health. However, experts caution that more research is needed to fully understand the relationship between coffee consumption and heart disease.

In the meantime, coffee lovers can enjoy their morning cup of joe knowing that it may have some potential health benefits.
