Shooting in Midtown Manhattan office building leaves five dead

A single gunman entered a midtown Manhattan office building on Monday afternoon and began shooting, resulting in the deaths of five people, including an NYPD officer, before fatally shooting himself.

NYC Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch identified the shooter as Shane Temura, a 27-year-old from Las Vegas with a history of mental health problems.

Tisch mentioned that Tamura had crossed state lines, with his vehicle being spotted as late as 4:24 p.m. in Columbia, New Jersey, shortly before the shooting.

Officials discovered a rifle case with rounds, a loaded revolver, ammunition and magazines, a backpack, and Tamura’s prescribed medication at the scene.

The NYPD bomb squad searched Tamura’s vehicle for explosives but found none, determining that he had acted alone and there was no longer a threat to the community.

Tisch stated, “His motives are still under investigation and we are working to understand why he targeted this particular location.”

The building where the shooting occurred, 345 Park Avenue, houses tenants such as the NFL, Rudin Management, KPMG, and Blackstone.

Records showed that Tamura had a concealed carry permit issued on June 14, a private investigator license, and a misdemeanor for trespassing in 2023.

Previous records indicated that Tamura played football at Granada Hills Charter in California and worked as a security guard at a Las Vegas casino.

The gunman used a rifle to shoot multiple people in different areas of the building before turning the gun on himself on the 33rd floor. The motive behind the shooting is still unknown.
