Shooting incident at Emory University in Atlanta

Officials have confirmed that a lone shooter has been killed after firing shots near Emory University in Atlanta on Friday afternoon.

The Atlanta Police Department stated that one police officer was injured during the response. The current condition of the officer is unknown.

“Emory Emergency: Active shooter on Emory Atlanta Campus at Emory Point CVS,” the university’s office of critical event preparedness and response posted. “RUN, HIDE, FIGHT. Avoid the area.”

The shelter in place order was lifted by the university at approximately 6:30 p.m.

At least one person was injured in the incident, according to a hospital spokesperson. (WAGA)

Emory University, a private university in Atlanta, is home to nine academic divisions, including Emory College of Arts and Sciences, Goizueta Business School, and Emory School of Medicine.

With over 5,700 students, Emory College of Arts and Sciences is the primary undergraduate division of Emory University.

The university is also affiliated with Emory Healthcare, the largest healthcare system in Georgia.

Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr expressed his horror in a post regarding the incident at Emory University.

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp thanked law enforcement for their quick response.

“Marty, the girls, and I are thankful for all those who answer the call to serve and who protect their fellow Georgians,” Kemp wrote. “We ask that you join us in holding them in our prayers, along with those harmed this evening near the CDC Center.”

ONE DEAD, ONE INJURED IN UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO CAMPUS SHOOTING AS MANHUNT CONTINUES

The shooting occurred near the main campus of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that DeKalb County Police are on the scene.

Additionally, the Atlanta Police Department and FBI are responding to the situation, according to posts on social media.

Police could be seen on video cameras directing traffic in the area near the reported shooting. (GDOT)
