Authorities have reported that three individuals were shot in an early morning incident at New York City’s famous Times Square. A 17-year-old suspect has been apprehended by the police.
The shooting took place at the intersection of 44th Street and 7th Avenue, near the Hard Rock Café and Carmine’s Italian Restaurant, around 1:20 a.m. causing panic among bystanders.
The victims include an 18-year-old woman and two men aged 19 and 65. They were taken to Bellevue Hospital and are currently in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to reports, the shooting stemmed from a dispute between two individuals, although the exact cause of the argument has not been disclosed by authorities. The teenage suspect is in custody, but no charges have been filed yet.
Video footage of the aftermath shows a chaotic scene with a significant police presence and emergency responders attending to the wounded. One individual was seen lying on the ground near an SUV, being treated by medical personnel before being transported to a hospital. There is no confirmation if any occupants of the SUV were among the victims.
This incident is not the first time that gun violence involving teenagers has affected Times Square. In a separate incident in February 2024, a 15-year-old was arrested for shooting a tourist and firing at an NYPD officer. Similarly, in April, a food cart vendor was shot after a confrontation with a group of young individuals just a few blocks away from the recent incident.
