NFL training camps have commenced this week, with the Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Chargers set to kick off the preseason in Canton, Ohio on July 31.

Amid the anticipation for the 2025 season, one running back is expected to be sidelined due to injury.

Houston Texans’ running back Joe Mixon is dealing with an ongoing ankle issue that will likely prevent him from playing in the preseason.

According to ESPN, Mixon, a two-time Pro Bowler, will undergo further evaluation closer to the start of the regular season. The Texans are slated to face the Los Angeles Rams on September 7 for Week 1.

The injury news regarding Mixon was first reported by the NFL Network.

Mixon began training camp on the non-football injury list after sustaining an ankle injury earlier in the offseason. He did not participate in minicamp activities.

This is not the first time Mixon has dealt with ankle issues, having missed games in previous seasons due to similar problems.

In the 2024 season, Mixon rushed for over 1,000 yards and scored multiple touchdowns, showcasing his talent on the field.

The Texans have added depth to their running backs room by signing Nick Chubb and drafting Woody Marks, providing support in Mixon’s absence.

The Texans will begin their preseason against the Minnesota Vikings on August 9.
