Tony Buzbee found himself unexpectedly involved in a high-profile case with Shannon Sharpe, but he seized the opportunity when it arose.
The former football star turned TV personality faced serious allegations of assault, sexual assault, battery, and sexual battery. Additionally, he was accused of causing emotional distress, with his accuser seeking significant damages.
The situation turned contentious, with Sharpe dismissing the claims as a “shakedown” and releasing explicit messages allegedly sent by the woman.

The parties reached a settlement recently, with Buzbee mentioning that “both sides acknowledged a long-term consensual and tumultuous relationship.”
Following Sharpe’s departure from ESPN in the aftermath of the case, Buzbee took a final jab at the former athlete.
“I didn’t wake up one morning and decide to sue Shannon Sharpe. He has no relevance in my life,” Buzbee stated in an interview. “I find him entertaining when he talks about sports he’s not involved in. But if I believe it’s a valid case, I will pursue it.”

Buzbee represented multiple women who accused Deshaun Watson of sexual assault, with the majority of cases resulting in settlements. He also represented a woman who accused Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs of assault when she was underage. The charges were eventually dropped, and Jay-Z is now suing the woman and Buzbee.
Sharpe alleged that Buzbee was targeting Black men, but Buzbee refuted such claims.
“I could be accused of targeting various groups based on the cases I pursue. If I believe it’s a legitimate case, I will pursue it,” Buzbee explained.

“I cherished my time at ESPN, where I had the chance to engage with my audience and share my unique perspective,” Sharpe commented on his brief stint at the network.

“I really enjoyed my time at ESPN. It gave me an opportunity to bring my audience that saw me really just grow. They saw me, you know, ‘Lakers in 5’ and they saw me say all these funny, these analogies that my grandparents gave me. And I was able to bring that to ESPN, so I’m very, very grateful for that.”
