A tragic incident took place at Yosemite National Park where a 29-year-old Google software engineer lost her life after being struck by a falling tree branch while hiking on a popular trail.

Angela Lin was exploring Tuolumne Grove in the park on July 19 when a large branch from a giant sequoia tree fell on her head, as reported by SFGate.

“Two to three seconds later, branches fell out of the sky,” said her boyfriend, David Hua. “One big branch struck Angela, and then there were a bunch of smaller ones directly behind me.”

Hua tried to save Lin by performing CPR until emergency responders arrived, but unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries.

Lin’s tragic death has left her loved ones in shock, with Hua expressing disbelief that such an incident could occur on a well-known trail.

The National Park Service is currently investigating the incident, with no further details available at the moment.

Hua expressed frustration over the lack of communication from officials and emphasized the importance of trail safety, maintenance, and awareness of potential hazards on popular trails.

Angela Lin was a highly accomplished individual, having obtained her bachelor’s degree from UC Berkeley and furthering her education with a master’s degree and Ph.D. from the University of Texas. She had been working at Google since 2022.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our colleague,” a Google spokesperson shared with FOX2 San Francisco. “Our thoughts are with her family and friends during this difficult time.”
