President Donald Trump has signed an executive order to establish a White House Olympics task force to address security concerns and other issues in preparation for the 2028 Games in Los Angeles.
During a press conference, Trump stated, “America is a nation of champions, and in 2028, we’ll demonstrate to the world America’s winning spirit. The Los Angeles Olympics are set to be a monumental moment for America. … It’s a fantastic time to be a sports enthusiast in the United States.”
The task force comprises Vice President JD Vance, Attorney General Pam Bondi, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, FCC Chairman Brendan Carr, White House chief of staff Susie Wiles, and deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, among others.

One of the top priorities of the task force will be to coordinate the efforts of federal, state, and local governments in transportation planning. Additionally, they will work on “simplifying visa processing and credentialing for foreign athletes, coaches, officials, and media,” according to Reuters.
Trump emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of the Olympics, even if it means utilizing the National Guard or military, taking a jab at “not very competent” L.A. Mayor Karen Bass.
The President’s press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, stated, “During his first term, President Trump played a crucial role in securing America’s bid to host the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. The President considers it a great honor to oversee this global sporting event in his second term. Sports is one of President Trump’s greatest passions, and his athletic expertise, along with his unparalleled hospitality experience, will make these Olympic events the most thrilling and memorable in history.”

Earlier this week, LA28 chair and president Casey Wasserman expressed his appreciation for the task force, stating that it signifies progress in their planning efforts and demonstrates their commitment to hosting the greatest Games in 2028.
Before the Olympics, the United States will host the FIFA World Cup in 2026, an event that Trump is eagerly anticipating. Trump recently attended the FIFA Club World Cup Final at MetLife Stadium.
