Trump visits Turnberry during overseas trip

President Donald Trump made a stop at his Turnberry golf course in Scotland during his recent overseas trip. Trump arrived in Scotland for a five-day visit, where he is set to visit his golf resort in Aberdee and meet with British Prime Minister Kier Starmer and the head of the Scottish government, First Minister John Swinney.

During his visit to Turnberry, Trump played golf with his son Eric and U.S. Ambassador to Britain Warren Stephens. He shared a video montage of his shots from the round, quoting golf legend Gary Player about the course.

Trump expressed his gratitude to Player for the quote, describing Turnberry as one of the top five greatest golf courses he has ever played.

Despite previously hosting four Open Championships, the Royal and Ancient (R&A) Golf Club decided not to return the Open Championship to Turnberry following the Capitol Riots in 2021.

Protests took place outside the U.S. Consulate in Edinburgh, where demonstrators voiced their opposition to Trump’s visit and criticized Starmer for a recent trade deal with the U.S.

Golf legend Gary Player advocated for the return of the Open Championship to Turnberry, emphasizing the fairness and quality of the course.

The PGA Tour is expected to return to Trump Doral next year, marking the first tournament at the venue since 2016. Trump purchased the Turnberry resort in 2014 for $60 million.

The last professional tournament held at Turnberry was the 2015 Women’s British Open, with seven Senior Open Championships hosted at the venue, the most recent in 2012.
