Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Rondale Moore suffered a severe injury during his first play of the preseason game after missing the entire 2024 season due to a knee injury.

Moore made an appearance in the Vikings’ game against the Houston Texans. He entered the game as a punt returner and was tackled by Texans linebacker Jamal Hill on the first play.

Moore was taken off the field on an athletic cart and brought to the locker room. He was visibly emotional with a towel over his head.

“It’s one of the most painful things for me as a head coach when I see that level of emotion,” said Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell, as reported by ESPN. “I strive to make a positive impact on those around me. In situations like this, it’s tough because there’s nothing I can do. You just have to be there for the player.”

O’Connell noted that Moore’s knee injury was significant.

Moore played only eight games in 2022 with the Arizona Cardinals due to a hamstring injury. He signed with the Atlanta Falcons in 2024 but suffered a season-ending knee injury during training camp.

He joined the Vikings in March but may miss the entire season once again.

The Vikings have a deep pool of wide receivers vying for a spot on the team, especially with Jordan Addison suspended at the start of the season.

Fifteen different players were targeted in the preseason game with several quarterbacks taking reps.
