Viral robot incident raises safety concerns
The video clip shows the full-sized humanoid robot named DeREX suspended from a crane in a Chinese factory. Suddenly, the robot begins thrashing its limbs violently, causing chaos and almost leading to a crane collapse.
Witnesses react with shock, with one exclaiming, “Oh my god, what was that?” Another questions, “What triggered this reaction?” The incident has left many speculating about the cause.
Reason behind the Unitree robot’s erratic behavior
Cix Liv, the robot handler who shared the footage, suggested that the robot’s behavior was due to running a full-body program without the feet making contact with the ground. This lack of contact led to the robot’s unpredictable movements.
Unitree was contacted for comment but did not respond before the deadline.

Previous incidents raise concerns about Unitree robots
This is not the first time a Unitree humanoid robot has gone viral for malfunctioning. Another H1 model malfunctioned in a similar manner in May, causing chaos during a test. Additionally, an earlier incident at a festival in China involved a Unitree humanoid robot making sudden aggressive movements towards a safety barrier.
