During a game between the Indiana Fever and the Los Angeles Sparks, WNBA star Sophie Cunningham was struck by a green sex toy. This is the third incident of a sex toy being thrown onto a WNBA court recently.

The first two incidents occurred in games in Atlanta on July 29 and in Chicago on August 1. The latest incident occurred as the Fever were preparing to inbound the ball in the final minutes of the second quarter.

Earlier in the day, Cunningham had expressed concerns about the trend of objects being thrown onto the court. She speculated on the potential consequences if a player were hit by such an object.

Cunningham jokingly shared that her mom had warned her about the possibility of being hit by a sex toy. Later, after the game, Cunningham reposted a message she had previously shared on social media urging fans to stop the inappropriate behavior.

The WNBA has taken action against this behavior, with one individual already arrested for throwing an object onto the court. The league announced that anyone caught throwing objects onto the court will face immediate ejection and a minimum one-year ban, along with potential arrest and prosecution by local authorities.

“The safety and well-being of everyone in our arenas is a top priority for our league. Objects of any kind thrown onto the court or in the seating area can pose a safety risk for players, game officials, and fans,” said the WNBA in a statement.

Delbert Carver, the individual arrested for throwing an object onto the court, was released on bond pending further legal proceedings.
