A Louisiana woman has been charged with fraud for purchasing a Lamborghini while fraudulently obtaining Medicaid benefits. Candace Taylor, 35, of Slidell, was arrested after it was discovered that she underreported her income to qualify for Medicaid benefits.
The state Bureau of Investigation began looking into Taylor after a complaint from the Louisiana Health Department. Taylor was dubbed the “Medicaid millionaire” by the office of Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill.
According to court documents, Taylor owned six different businesses that generated over $9.5 million between January 2020 and December 2024. Investigators found deposits totaling $480,994.09 in her accounts, with over $325,000 attributed to her business activities.
Taylor made various purchases including a $100,000 wire transfer to an exotic car dealership for the purchase of a 2022 Lamborghini Urus. She also made six-figure withdrawals for property purchases, cosmetic surgery, high-end jewelry, and luxury services.
Despite her lavish spending, Taylor tried to renew her Medicaid benefits two months after purchasing the Lamborghini, claiming she made $4,000 per month with an unidentified business. Investigators also noted that Taylor flaunted her lifestyle on social media.
Medicaid provides health insurance for low-income adults and children, with each state administering the program differently. Taylor initially applied for Medicaid in May 2019 under an alias with false income information, leading to her fraud charges.
