Mariano Rivera, the iconic pitcher for the New York Yankees, suffered an Achilles injury during the team’s 77th Old-Timers’ Day game on Saturday, as confirmed by a team representative to the New York Daily News.

Former Yankees pitcher Roger Clemens was the first to disclose the injury during an interview on the WFAN broadcast of the Yankees game.

“It was a fun day until we heard about Mariano. Mariano hurt his Achilles,” Clemens mentioned. “I think he’s currently at the hospital.”

Rivera made a memorable moment during Saturday’s Old-Timers’ Day game when he came to bat and hit a single off his former teammate and Yankees legend, Andy Pettite.

Old-Timers’ Day on Saturday was in remembrance of the Yankees’ 2000 World Series win against the New York Mets. Rivera, Clemens, and Pettite were all key players on that championship team.

Rivera made history by being the first and only player to be unanimously elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2019.

Rivera, who is 55 years old, publicly endorsed President Donald Trump during Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign.

“President Trump, he’s my friend,” Rivera declared on WABC Radio’s “Sid & Friends.” “I can’t deny that. I will tell that to anyone. Before he was the president, he was my friend. Because of that, I’m going to vote for him.”

In 2019, Trump awarded Rivera the Presidential Medal of Freedom and hailed him as “maybe the greatest pitcher of all time.”
