Zac Taylor reveals reasons behind Bengals’ decision to skip joint training camps

NFL teams often face off in training camp practices, but the Cincinnati Bengals have chosen not to participate in joint practices this year, making them one of only three teams to do so.

Bengals coach Zac Taylor believes that having his players participate in preseason games, including projected starters and star players like Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase, and Tee Higgins, is a more effective way to prepare for the season compared to joint practices.

Taylor emphasized the benefits of intrasquad competition and stated that the team will engage in scrimmage-style competitions between offense and defense during six practices leading up to their next preseason game.

The coach expressed excitement about the focus on internal development this year and the opportunities it presents for players to showcase their skills and compete for positions.

As the Bengals continue their preparations, Taylor highlighted the ongoing competition at the right guard position and the flexibility in the offensive line roster, emphasizing that nothing is set in stone and every practice and game will be crucial in shaping the final lineup.

The Bengals are gearing up to kick off their regular season against the Cleveland Browns on Sept. 7.
